Can I Go Bankrupt Without Meeting The The Trustee

2009-12-21

In Canada, it is not possible to file for bankruptcy without using the services of a licensed Trustee in Bankruptcy; however, you can file for bankruptcy without ever meeting the Trustee if you are in a remote area and cannot reasonably access the services of a Trustee. In such a case, you would need to speak with the Trustee by telephone and exchange relevant documentation by mail, fax or email. There are rules governing this so I would need more information about where you live before I can tell you if a "remote" filing would apply to you. Please call if you would like to discuss this further.
