Yes...someone can file for bankruptcy when they are unemployed. In fact, with the economic situation as it is currently and more layoffs than in recent years, it is a common cause of financial troubles.  And sometimes a common cause of bankruptcy. I would recommend that you contact one of our Trustees in your region before your bills fall too far behind.  There are other options available besides a bankruptcy.  But the Trustee can also review how a bankruptcy would affect you as well.  Once actions are started by creditors, some of the other options may not be available to you any longer.
